SIPS & TIMBER FRAME INFO

Big Savings On Heating Bills

SIPs are one of the most environmentally responsible building systems available. A SIPs building provides high levels of insulation and is extremely airtight, meaning that the amount of energy used to heat and a cool room can be cut by up to 50 per cent.

SIPs buildings are more energy-efficient, stronger, quieter and more draft free than other systems, like timber framing. Less air movement or leakage translates into fewer drafts, fewer penetrations for noise, lower energy bills and a significantly more comfortable and controllable indoor environment. The result is lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Strength Of Build

SIPs are also noted for their superior strength. SIP buildings are capable of withstanding extreme climate and weather conditions.

Once completed, a SIPs structure forms a monolithic shell which is up to seven times stronger than a conventional timber frame structure. This provides a building with a very robust and solid feel which can be indistinguishable from a traditionally constructed building once complete.

Costs of Different Wall Types

NOTE: U- Values are better the lower the number. Assuming the same outer wall finish, the U-Values for different wall types will be:

Brick and block: U value of 0.3W/m2K
ICF, Concrete: U value of 0.2W/m2
Timber frame: U value of 0.24W/m2
SIPS: U value of 0.19W/m2

Key Advantages

SIPS buildings are generally more energy efficient, stronger, quieter and more airtight than other building methods. Less air leakage means less drafts, fewer noise penetrations and significantly lower energy bills, thus a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Modern Construction

Modern methods of construction are utilised to factory produce your SIPS building meaning minimal wastage and less waste to landfill.

Sustainable

The OSB (Orientated Strand Board) that is utilised for the panels is from sustainable harvested spruce. Up to 35% reduction in the amount of timber utilised in a SIPS building.

Faster Build Time

A faster build program will reduce overall onsite costs due to reduced project management, and less inconvenience for the customer.

Lightweight & Strong

SIPs are lightweight (approximately 25Kg/m2) making them easier and quicker to assemble on site. However, SIPs are also noted for their superior strength. SIP buildings are capable of withstanding extreme climate and weather conditions.

Thermal Insulated

Limited Cold Bridging due to the continuity of the rigid insulation within the system provides greatly enhanced thermal reliability, which in turn can provide a platform to achieve Code Level 4 and 5 for Sustainable Homes.
